Questions and answers about the Shield Chrome extension

Updated this week

This article will guide you through:

1 - Shield Chrome extension compliance

The Shield Chrome extension has been built for the sole purpose of obtaining active consent from users to connect their profiles, connect LinkedIn accounts to Shield, and transfer data.

What permissions does the extension require?

The Shield Chrome extension requires permission to the LinkedIn.com domain to connect LinkedIn accounts to Shield, and maintain the connection to populate data in the Shield dashboard.

Is the extension compliant with LinkedIn’s terms and conditions?

The Shield Chrome extension does not automate user behavior or scrape data.

Shield is a third-party provider of LinkedIn analytics on the same mission as LinkedIn, empowering members to create better content and engage thoughtfully on the platform.

To the best of our understanding, Shield is operating in line with LinkedIn's terms and conditions.

2 - Is the Shield Chrome extension safe to use?

We have taken several measures to ensure that the Shield Chrome extension is safe and secure for our users.

This includes:

  • Minimal permissions required: The extension only requests the permissions it needs to function effectively, i.e. access to LinkedIn.com and shieldapp.ai

  • Secure design: All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Read more here.

  • No scraping or unauthorized access: The extension does not scrape or collect any data outside the scope described in our legal documentation, such as the Data Processing Agreement and Privacy Policy.

Shield is built fully in line with GDPR and specifically article 20 and the Right to Data Portability enables the transfer of data from LinkedIn to Shield upon the user's request and active consent.
